Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How is this program run?
We begin the process with an introductory call, where we will get to know your interests and set our strategy. For brainstorming sessions and mock interviews, live meetings are hosted via Zoom video conference, allowing students to log in anytime from anywhere. However, given that most editing is a back-and-forth process that requires multiple readers, the vast majority of application assembly work is done asynchronously, via Google Docs. We go through each essay-line-by-line. Students are responsible for submitting drafts to us on a regular basis, reviewing suggested edits, and completing revisions.

Q: What is the role of parents in this process?
Parents are always welcome to sit-in on meetings and review essays, but play an observatory role. While parents may suggest edits, they are required to at registration to agree not to interfere with the essay-writing and application assembly process. Official editing is strictly between the student and their counselor.

Q: What if my student has a question? Whom can they talk to?
When it comes to application assembly, each student receives a personal counselor whom they can always reach out to with questions, via email or WhatsApp. Contact information will be shared at the introductory meeting. Students are welcome to reach out at any time for any reason, whether it's a simple question about phrasing, or a larger strategic planning issue. Platinum students receive priority advising support.

Q: How long does it take to get feedback on an essay?

In most cases, we return essays to students same-day or next-day. However, during busy periods, it can typically take a maximum of 72 hours. We like to have multiple counselors review each essay, which may take substantial time.

Q: I’m interested in the Platinum Package but only want to work with Neil. Is this possible?
Yes, however, Neil takes a handful of students each year on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at info@EduAvenues.com to confirm availability.

Q: Is there any difference between packages besides the number of schools allotted?
The only major differences, besides the number of schools, is the presence of mock interviews and priority advising support in the Platinum package. In each package, we’ll always use the time in a manner that maximizes your student’s admissions chances.

Q: I'm planning on applying to college before my senior year: is this allowed?
For our advanced students, this is not only possible but becoming quite common. However, the standard for admission prior to senior year is substantially higher. We do offer the same packages for students applying to senior year. Our counselors can also advise you on specific strategies on how to navigate the process with the school system and counselors.

Q: When do you recommend getting started?
For current juniors, we recommend a meeting around spring break and beginning the writing process over the summer. Our goal is to complete most of your application by the end of the summer so students can focus on first and second quarter grades during their senior year.

Q: But what if I want to start right away? Can we start in February of junior year, for example?
Absolutely. Our preference is to begin the application process ASAP.

Q: Is there a sibling discount?
Yes! We have a $100 discount per family, for any families with two siblings who are enrolled in any of our courses in the same year. This will be applied as a credit back to your original payment method. After signing up, please email us to receive this discount.

Q: Why should I go with a package rather than booking several hourly sessions?
While hourly sessions are fantastic for planning, strategy, and brainstorming, they are not ideal for official reviews. During our reviews, we have multiple readers go through the essay or document line-by-line, providing comments. This is not possible with hourly sessions alone. In addition, hourly sessions offer several essential perks including scholarship application reviews, mock interviews, recommendation letter support, and email/text advisory support outside of the boundaries of the session.
