What Is NCSSM?
NCSSM is consistently ranked among America's top public high schools. It is a residential STEM school where academically driven North Carolina students live on campus and learn in a college-like environment.
Admission is highly selective, with recent acceptance rates around 15-18%. Strong grades matter, but successful applicants also show sustained STEM curiosity, maturity, and readiness for residential life.

What NCSSM Looks For
Admission is not based on grades alone. These are the qualities that tend to strengthen an application:
Genuine STEM Interest
NCSSM looks for evidence of initiative: projects, competitions, independent learning, research, or sustained exploration beyond required coursework.
Strong Academic Preparation
Strong grades matter, especially in math and science. Course rigor, challenge level, and academic momentum also shape the application.
Ready for Residential Life
Because NCSSM is residential, the application should show maturity, independence, and readiness to live and learn away from home.
Community Contribution
NCSSM values students who contribute to the community, collaborate generously, and strengthen the academic environment around them.
