What the Common Data Set is

The Common Data Set is a standard survey that colleges complete and publish each year, with the same questions in the same order. That makes one college's numbers comparable across years. Section C covers first-year admission.

C1
Applicants, admitted students and enrolled students. We divide admits by applicants for the acceptance rate, and enrolled by admits for yield.
C9
The 25th and 75th percentile SAT and ACT scores of enrolled first-years, and the percent who submitted each test.
C11 and C12
The share of enrolled first-years in each high school GPA band, and their average GPA.
C21
Early decision applicants and admits, for colleges that offer early decision.

How we keep it accurate

We archive each college's Common Data Set files and read the figures from them with a script, then check the results against the files by hand. Every figure links to the file it came from. If a college left a figure blank, the page shows a dash and says so.

These pages report what colleges published. They do not estimate anyone's chances of admission.

Common Questions

Where do these numbers come from?

From each college's Common Data Set, the standard report colleges publish every year. We keep a copy of every file we use and link to it, so you can check any figure yourself.

Why does a college have missing years?

Some colleges did not publish a file for a year, took old files down, or left a question blank. Where we could not find the college's own file, the year shows as not available. We never fill a gap with an estimate.

Can you tell me my chances?

No. These pages show published figures and where a score or GPA falls against them. Admission decisions depend on much more than numbers.

Will you add more colleges?

Yes. Our archive holds Common Data Set files for more colleges, and we will add pages as we check each one.
