How each test is superscored
- SAT
- Your highest Reading and Writing score plus your highest Math score, from any test dates. Each section is scored from 200 to 800 in 10-point steps, so the superscore runs from 400 to 1600.
- ACT
- The average of your best English, Math and Reading scores from any test events, rounded to the nearest whole number. This follows ACT’s current method for the enhanced ACT.
- ACT Science
- Not part of the superscore Composite. ACT still reports your highest Science and STEM scores when you have taken Science.
- Mixing versions
- ACT uses your best section scores whether they came from the older ACT or the enhanced ACT. For the single-test comparison, mark older ACT dates: their Composite averaged four sections including Science, so the calculator counts Science for those dates only.
- College policy
- Each college decides whether it superscores and which scores it wants to see. The calculator shows the number; the college decides how to use it.

What is an SAT superscore?
College Board describes superscoring as colleges using your best section-level scores, even if they came from different test dates. For the SAT that is your highest Reading and Writing score plus your highest Math score.
How does ACT calculate a superscore now?
ACT takes your best English, Math and Reading scores from any test event, averages them and rounds to the nearest whole number. Science is no longer part of the superscore Composite. Scores can come from the older ACT or the enhanced ACT.
Who can get an ACT superscore?
ACT says students who have taken the ACT more than once since September 2016 are eligible.
Do all colleges superscore?
No. Each college sets its own policy, and some ask for every score you have. Check the testing policy on each college’s admissions website before you send scores.
